A School Site Custom Design offers the ability to create a website that is precisely what you need. Having navigation and web pages that drive users to key content, meeting branding expectations, and effectively communicating to multiple audiences (current families, prospective familes, donors, community and more) can all be accomplished in creative and successful ways with a Custom Design.

Best of all, your fully responsive custom site is crafted on our School Site Content Management System (CMS) - including the ability to edit many of the customized navigation links, edit your text and images and control all of your inside page content - all within your custom design. We understand that without the ability to easily edit your website content, even the most beautiful website design will soon fail.

Each unique Custom Design project is led by one of our web marketing project managers and features professional web graphic design, and the very latest web programming features and protocols. A Custom Design includes:

  • A design consultation and discovery process
  • Professional graphic design that is unique to your organization
  • Customized, dynamic tools to help you maintain your custom design and keep your website updated
  • A unique home page and an inside page design; the interior webpage design features all standard page layouts available in our Content Management System (CMS)
  • An online training session on your new site and your customized CMS tools

To get started with your Custom Design, complete this Consultation Request form, or contact your sales specialist and we'll be in contact with you to discuss your project.

Custom Design - Process Overview

Our custom design process can be organized into four primary phases: Discovery & Definition, Design, Develop and Deploy. Below is a basic overview of each of these phases. We encourage you to review the process so that you can plan for the time and resources your organization will need to invest in your new custom website.

Discovery & Definition

We need to understand your school, your website needs and goals, audiences, and much more. It's also likely that you and your team may need to be making some core decisions related to the new design. All of this is part of the Discovery & Definition phase.

  • Complete project questionnaire which will provide project scope, target audiences, key content/pages and more.
  • Project kickoff and design consultation meeting
  • Branding, key messaging and design definition
  • Usability and user experience definition
  • Asset and file exchange and review (logo, photography, etc.)
  • Initial sitemap submitted

Design

Many people are surprised to learn that the design phase is far more about content than the visual images and color typically thought of with the term "design". Similar to building a house, our websites begin with a wireframe - the "blueprint" of a website. We'll take what we learned from you during the Discovery & Definition phase and put that into a simple black and white wireframe first. Once the wireframe meets your approval, we move to the creative design stage.

  • Wireframe (mapping out how content will be presented to site users)
  • Indepth primary navigation planning
  • Design Document (also referred to as a Style Tile) for website design direction, style, and "feel"
  • Image editing (if applicable)
  • Final Design stage
  • Final Sitemap submitted

Develop

Once we have your green light on the final design, we move on to Develop. Our expert programming team will take the hand-crafted custom design and fully build that within our CMS. All our coding meets the latest best practice standards and meets rigorous browser and mobile device testing.

During the develop phase time, our project manager will be working with you to gather final details and schedule your training. Most clients use this time to focus on content writing and organization for the new website!

  • Coding and development
  • QA testing (web browser, device, links, upload sitemap, CMS test, etc.)
  • Customer submits final elements, URLs, etc.
  • Customer training pre-scheduled

Deploy (Release & Launch)

The final phase is deployment, where we provide you with access to your new site and you can begin adding your content! Included in this phase would be the entire launch process. The exact launch dates and process is unique to each school, and one that our customer service team will work with you on, but you and your team will manage.

  • Training conducted
  • Site released to your organization's admin(s)
  • Customer builds content and plans for target go-live date
  • Go Live process coordinated with your team and School Site support team
